Moses Adukwu, the Coach of the Edo Queens FC of Benin, and the Captain of the team, Odoma Amarachi, have thumped their chest and promised the fans of the hard fighting team including the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo that bringing back the Super Six diadem from Ikenne Remo in Ogun State is a done deal.

Said Adukwu: “It has been God all the way. God that has been helping us and I pray that he will take us to Ogun State and bring us back. We are going with an empty bag but we pray to come back with the trophy,” the duo echoed at a press briefing ahead of their NWFL final match day encounter with Confluence Queens on Wednesday evening.

“Compared to the last season this season has been good. The reason I renewed my contract is because of what the Chairman of the Commission told me. While discussing with me he said: ‘Coach, I want to win the cup again.’

“That was the driving force for me and I said if this is his vision I must key into it because he is the head of the team and I signed a new contract. Some quality players left us for greener pastures. But we recruited some new players even before the continental.

“We know that the team is not doing too badly but I am still not satisfied because we still have some grey areas to cover. I will always ask for more. We have played thirteen games this season – won ten, drew two and we lost just last week and we knew why.

“Football is like that sometimes. When people are too desperate they win with everything. All the same the team that defeated us we are still going to meet them in the Super Six. We will settle it there.”

Going forth, he heaped praises on the state government under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo for the massive support.

“The support from the government is massive. From the Governor to the Deputy Governor and the Chairman of the Sports Commission. I want to give kudos to my players. Within the shortest time they’ve keyed into my philosophy because one of the major reasons my team must do well is because my team must be disciplined. And they know that if you are not disciplined you cannot play for me.

“The girls are really trying. Cooperation and team work is really working for us. We have gone half way but the important one is coming which is the Super Six. I check the other teams that are competing in the Super Six. I happen to be the only coach that has participated in the whole Super Six.

“It’s huge, it’s going to be tough because the pressure would be on me. Everybody would want to pull down Edo Queens. But if you want to pull down Edo Queens you need to get the materials to pull them down. My girls are ready. We are going with the mentality of we want to retain the cup.”

Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, in his message stressed: “Edo Queens throughout the season have really done well. The team has been disciplined. They have been resilient and they have been committed. Edo Queens have really made the government proud. From our own part we have made it clear that we’re setting one clear target.

“Our vision is to win CAF and the Coach said ‘I am with you.’ And by God’s grace I believe that he has proved it and that the girls have also proved it. The match we are having today is not about the Super Six. For me, the Super Six is a done deal. I am confident in the management I am confident in the crop of players that we have. We know we are going to conquer Super Six, we know we’re going to conquer WAFU. And CAF we are going we are also going to conquer.

“We want to thank the Governor Monday Okpebholo for what he has done and what he is still doing. We pray that God will continue to lead him and guide. That God will give him the heart to continue to support us.”
