Okojie best suited to represent Edo Central Senatorial District

June 12: Not ideal as Democracy Day, says senate hopeful

Peter Gregory Obi, the Labour Party(LP) flagbearer in the last Presidential polls, has charged Nigerians to stop looters of the nation’s treasury as the resources that they are wasting belong to all Nigerians.

He made the charge as the Special Guest of Honour at a Colloquium and Hall of fame programme of the Edo Policy Roundtable in association with Mudiame University, Irrua, Edo State held in honour of the National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre in Benin City on Thursday morning.

Dr. Francis Ilenloa Igberaese, President of the Edo Policy Roundtable, charged the LP “to urgently establish a Research and Development Institute, which will be the resource organ of the party. This is because any country or organization embarking on development that is not driven by research is only expressing mere ideas as raw materials which would most likely somersault.”

Yunusa Salisu Tanko, Chief Spokesman of Peter Obi/Datti Baba-Ahmed LP Presidential Campaign Organisation, said: “Today, religion has been used, abused and misused by political elites, and unfortunately the so called clerics of Christianity and Islam, so much that it has continued to cause conflagrations all over the world.”

In his submission, Barrister Abure posited that in the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State the kind of governor needed is “a shepherd who is committed to the flock and one responsible for guiding them and attending to their needs.”

Barrister Abure and nine other chieftains of the LP were honoured with an award. Other awardees were Senator Neda Imasuen, Hon. Eseosa Iyawe, Engr. Glory Momodu, Hon. Murphy Omoruyi, Comrade Kelly Omoruyi, Hon. Victor Umeh, Chief Patrick Eholor, Senator Onyewuchi Ezenwah and Hon. Afam Oghene.
