Shocking: Obaseki yet to pay over 200 aides 5 months salaries

The shocking but revealing information reaching Popular News this morning is that the majority of the over 200 individuals that the Edo State Government appointed as Special Assistants(SA) and Senior Special Assistants (SSA) since last December are living from hand to mouth as they’re yet to be paid for services they’re rendering.

According to reliable sources most of them are thinking of abandoning the ship but for the intervention of some notable individuals who have been appealing for a rethink by the appointees considering the poor state of the economy.

“Can you imagine Governor Godwin Obaseki making a promise to increase the minimum wage of workers in Edo State from N40,000 to N70,000 starting from today(1st of May, 2024) when a large chunk of the more than 200 people he appointed as Special Assistants(SA) and Senior Special Assistants(SSA) since December 2023 have not been paid for their services,” a source divulged.

It would be recalled that in the euphoria of the commissioning of the Edo State Labour House christened Adams Oshiomhole House in Temboga, a suburb of Benin City on Monday, Governor Obaseki said: “For us in Edo State, we have decided to move the minimum wage from N40,000 to N70,000 effective from 1st of May 2024. I think like a capitalist and not a comrade. 

“In my May Day speech, I will give more details on our new minimum wage. If the Federal Government imposes something higher, we would make the necessary adjustments.”
