Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) from the six local government areas that make up Edo North district have thrown their weight behind the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki in his faceoff with his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Addressing the Press inside the Conference Hall of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin, the group led by a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adjoto Kabiru accused Shaibu of been the progenitor of the crisis that has engulfed the PDP in the state.
According to the group, “we have watched in utter disbelief the self contrived rift between our governor, Godwin Obaseki and our son, the deputy governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu. Afemai people are a very hardworking, patriotic and loyal race.
Going further, the group stressed, “we are surprised and embarrassed by the behaviour of the current deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu in his ill advised mission to govern the state by all means.
The group stated that Comrade Shaibu’s court action against Governor Obaseki “is not only speculative but baseless and highly embarrassing.
“We are coming out today to dissociate the Afemai people from this ill conceived action, and to also apologize to the governor of the state for this unfortunate incident.”
In conclusion, the group averred: “the people of Edo North are solidly behind Mr. Godwin Obaseki and urge him not to be distracted by the current rat race of succession, which to us is premature, individualistic and diversionary.”
