Newly appointed Director General(DG) of the National Institute for Sports(NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, is seeing his assigment as a duty to revive the dead fortune of the institution.

While on his maiden official tour of the Surulere, Lagos based institution and its facilities on Monday, a shocking sight of total rot and an institution in disarray welcomed the ex-Deputy Governor of Edo State in contrast to the dream of training and retraining national sports coaches and medicare personnel which the institution was meant for.

From the dormitories, offices, and toilet facilities to the electricity and water system Comrade Shaibu was shell shocked to see sure signs of total neglect and decay everywhere.

The DG, who was visibly moved by the state of the facilities, has vowed to bring the institution back to life. Thus, given the magnitude of the task ahead he has declared a state of emergency for the renovation of the institution and bringing everything to its glorious state in the days of yore and even more.

The National Institute for Sports (NIS) was formally established in 1974, although it was conceptualized in 1972. The law granting it autonomy, Decree 31, was promulgated on July 8, 1992.
