Senator Mathew Urhoghide, the immediate past senator that represented Edo South in the red chambers of the National Assembly (NASS), has thrown his hat in the ring in the race to govern Edo State in 2024 and beyond.

He gave the hint of his aspiration while on a visit to the Secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin City on Tuesday morning.

Senator Urhoghide while recounting his strings of achievements while in the NASS said that he took joy in the fact that in his time he served the people of Edo South Senatorial District irrespective of which political party they belonged to or their ethnic origin.

Senator Urhoghide disclosed that he was able to touch the lives of many people in Edo South District with quality representation in his eight years in the NASS.

He recalled that one of the highlights of his performance as a senator is the fact that he gave good support to indigenes of Edo State whenever they have cause to appear before the Senate on any issue.

On the 2024 governorship election, Senator Urhoghide said he is coming into the race to bring sanity into it so that it would not be hijacked by some politicians, he refused to name, who may be intent on fostering their hegemony on the people by influencing the emergence of ill prepared candidates.

He asserted that he supports the ongoing debate that the Edo Central Senatorial District should be allowed to produce the next governor of the state.
