President of the One Love Foundation, Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor, has warned those he described as die hard supporters of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who are vying for elective office in the forthcoming local government council polls in the state to thread softly and be careful how they peddle his name to seek for votes as it will backfire against them.

Chief Eholor, who is contesting for the position of councillor of Utoka ward in Ovia North East Local Government Council of Edo State as an independent candidate on the strength of recent electoral reforms, affirmed that his emergence on the ballot paper would be a rude shock to those who believe in the old order of just apportioning results to their favoured candidates.

“Brandishing Governor Godwin Obaseki’s name by his diehard supporters would work against them in this local council polls coming up all over Edo State on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022.

“One of the factors that will be acting negatively against Obaseki and his cohorts is that for now they have no political party platform. They are neither in APC nor PDP. My advice to such calibre of candidates is that they should stick to telling the electorates what they have done well in the past and how they want to impact on their constituents when voted into position.

“If they’re planning to use Obaseki’s achievements as their yardstick to get popular vote I assure you that they will fail woefully.”

Going further, Chief Eholor stated: “This new electoral reform that allows for independent candidacy would have come as a shocker to Godwin Obaseki and his likes as they do not believe in the rule of law.

“Also affected by the electoral reforms are those who trade political party ticket by jumping to another political party after winning an election. Such set of politicians in the Edo State House of Assembly will soon have their day in the sun as their issue is court bond. If it can happen in Ebonyi State it can also happen in Edo State.

“As minorities they joined Obaseki to decamp to the PDP and they have since been conniving with him to perpetrate illegalities.”
