Newly elected chairman of Benin branch of NBA promises colleagues a better deal

Pius Ohigbo, the newly elected chairman of the Benin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has promised to place the association in good stead in line with the foundation laid by its previous executive councils.

He asserted that what is uppermost in his mind is how to bring unity into the association and thus moving it forward. He promised not to let down his colleagues who trust in him and exhibited their trust by voting for him.

He spoke after he was sworn-in as the new chairman of the branch having emerged with 444 votes to defeat four other candidates.

Earlier, the chairman of the caretaker committee, Solomon Odiase, thanked the electoral committee led by Emmanuel Usoh for a job well done. He charged the new executive committee members to live up to the expectation of the members of the association.

Eleven positions were vied for in the keenly contested election held inside the Bar House in Benin City with 693 members duly accredited to vote amidst adherence to the covid-19 pandemic protocols of social distancing. The positions vied for included Financial Secretary, Provost, Legal Adviser, Social Secretary, Welfare Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Vice-Chairman and Chairman.


Others elected as executive council members included Joy Obasuyi (Financial Secretary) with 394 votes; Terry Aghahowa(Provost) with 353 votes; Sunday Daudu(Legal Adviser) with 384 votes; Christopher Otasowie(Social Secretary) with 452 votes; Charles Igiebor(Welfare Secretary) with 293 votes; Ogaga Emoghwanre(Publicity Secretary) with 348 votes; Stella Agboha(Treasurer) with 363 votes; Michael Egiede(Assistant Secretary) with 270 votes; Andrew Lawani(Secretary) with 294 votes and Patience Agbale(Vice-Chairman) with 294 votes.
