Commissioner of Police Edo State Command, Betty Otimenyin, has assured that her approach to duties will be more of proactive than detective approach.
She gave the assurance while on a visit to the Secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) in Benin City on Wednesday afternoon.
Otimenyin disclosed that she will place much of her trust in the support she gets from the media and indeed the people of the state as security is a collective thing not a “one man show.” And to drive home her approach she built it on the slogan of “see something, say something.”
The CP, the first indigene of the acclaimed heartbeat state and also the first female to be the state Police boss, enthused that she will go all out against policemen who indulge in harassment of people for no just cause as she has come to right the wrong that has always been associated with police operatives with a further promise to make the state safe for all and sundry.
Welcoming CP Otimenyin to the Edo State NUJ Secretariat, Festus Alenkhe, the Chairman of the Council, told her that reporters will always be happy to share information with the police whenever it’s available.
He appealed to the CP to let policemen know that journalists are their partners in progress and thus they should always feel free to relate with them as the occasion permits.
