In a letter forwarded to the Edo State Council of the NUJ, the NEDG and BON while seeking the esteemed collaboration of the council in hosting the debate stated: “As part of our commitment to enhancing democratic engagement and providing the electorate with comprehensive information about candidates’ policies and programmes, we believe that hosting a well organised debate is crucial.”

Adding, “we are in the process of hosting the debate but heard that you had already set up a committee and we do not want to dissipate energies hosting separate debates to water down the importance of the debate.”

According to the group, “the collaboration between the NEDG, BON,  and the NUJ Edo State Council will bring numerous benefits to the state and its electorate. Our combined efforts will ensure a well organised, widely viewed debate that will be broadcast nationwide, offering unparalleled exposure for the candidates and bringing national prominence to Edo State.

“The NEDG and BON will handle the nationwide coverage, ensuring that the debates are accessible to viewers across the country. The extensive reach will provide the candidates with a platform to present their visions and policies to a broad audience, while also enhancing the credibility and visibility of the Edo State Council of the NUJ as a key player in promoting democratic processes.”

The Edo State 2024 Gubernatorial Debates programme is slated for Sunday, September 15th.
