After series of postponements the much talked about 20th National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 has commenced in earnest in Benin City.
Much as sports lovers would have been so glad to be on the spectators stand to witness the proceedings in the different sports arena, the Covid-19 worldwide pandemic has been a drawback as many stay back indoors.
What has been of major concern as it were is the way the Edo State Boxing contingent has been floundering in their outings. They are been flogged by better prepared states like Borno that we understand have invested handsomely on their athletes.
The Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre venue of the event is mostly avoided by residents of the state to avoid facing the shameful pounding of their representatives.
Another issue that is trending as regards the sports fiesta is the rumour from God knows where that reporters are been fed sumptuous meals. This report is causing a lot of confusion as the angry reporters have no choice than to refute the claim challenging anybody who has evidence to the contrary to make it public.
