“We are excited and many people are here but we are very cautious because there must be control to ensure the integrity of this event remain intact. People are coming from other parts of the country and even beyond. This is a good one and the women are connecting with one another.

“We have received confirmation from about four athletes expected to arrive on Thursday (today) to join the Zimbabwean runner who is already on ground.”

Our correspondent was present as runners from Edo, Delta, Ogun and Oyo State picked their kits for the November 9 race. Oyo based runner, Gbogbo Jennifer Akinrodoye said she was happy to be in Lagos for the LWR 2024.

“I feel nice. I feel it will be a fun experience. I wasn’t here last year but I was here two years ago. I’m a footballer. That’s my main stuff. I play football for fun. For now, I’m 70 percent ready for Saturday. I have three days, so I will do some exercises and some normal running. Most times, I leave early and jog.

“I am happy with the EXPO programme because I have picked up something that will benefit me. When I came I met a woman talking and I learnt about recycling stuff. It is amazing,” she said.
