Senator (Prince) Ned Munir Nwoko has awarded full four-year scholarships to students drawn from the nine local government areas of Delta North to pursue degree programmes at the Sports University of Nigeria, located in Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State.
Announcing the scholarship programme during a briefing at the university campus, Senator Nwoko said the initiative was aimed at supporting academically inclined young people with sporting abilities in line with the institution’s unique philosophy of combining formal education with physical development.
“It is called the Sports University but it offers far more than sports. We run accredited programmes across a range of faculties. However, for a child to be admitted here, they must be able to participate in at least one sport. It is a holistic approach to education,” the senator explained.
The Sports University of Nigeria, founded by Senator Nwoko, is the first private sports university in sub-Saharan Africa. According to him, the institution was established to address the educational and physical development needs of Nigeria’s youth, especially those who demonstrate exceptional promise in both academics and athletics.
