High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, Chairman of the Edo State Traditional Medical Board(TMB), has disclosed that the board is on the verge of discussing with Governor Monday Okpebholo on the need to establish hospitals for traditional medical practitioners (native doctors).

“We will discuss with Governor Monday Okpebholo to support the establishment of hospitals for traditional medical practitioners(native doctors). So that patients can have a free choice of the hospitals they will patronise when they need treatment.

APC stakeholders warn on imposition in Edo South

“Orthodox medical practitioners actually take from us to transform and recommend some tablets for their patients. That’s to tell you that nature is very powerful and cannot be sidelined,” he asserted.

He charged the native doctors to be law abiding citizens, adding “killing, using human blood, human parts for ritual is prohibited in Edo State.”

The TMB Chairman disclosed “we’re taking records of the traditional medical practitioners in Edo State so as to eliminate the quacks that are associated with human rituals and other wrong practices.

“I have gone round the 18 local government areas of the state to enlighten traditional medical practitioners and let them know that it is good to do the right thing and not to destroy the state.”

He appealed to Governor Okpebholo “to allocate a botanical garden to us where we can plant our roots and herbs to make it easier for us to take care of lives. We have applied to the Governor through the Ministry of Agriculture.

“The Ministry has informed us that we can get a space in Ehor. We’re waiting for the Governor’s approval. By the time that we now plant our roots and herbs things will become much easier for us. By next year we can have our hospitals.”

According to Ugbesia, “take a look that even as there’s a Psychiatric Hospital mad people are still roaming the streets in large numbers. It’s only native doctors that can be of help in curbing this. We want the government to give us the authority to step in to address the issue. It’s only native doctors that have the power to treat mad people successfully and reduce their population so that Edo State can be made clean.”

Going further, he described Governor Okpebholo as a man that God has sent to rescue Edo State from the grip of evil people, adding “people all over the state are in support of Governor Okpebholo and praying fervently for him seeing his performance of making life better for them by bringing development closer to their doorsteps.”

Ugbesia disclosed that people of the state are endeared to Governor Okpebholo because of the achievements of the state government one of which is the employment of 1400 cleaners as staff of the state government.

He stressed that the result of the recent bye-election in the state into the National Assembly is a confirmation of the love the people have for the Governor and his party, the All Progressives Congress(APC).

“An assessment of the results of the recent bye-elections in the state into Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency.

“There are 52 wards in Edo Central Senatorial District and APC won in all the wards. In Ovia Federal Constituency APC also cleared everywhere. That’s a pointer to the fruit of the good governance of the APC under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo.”
