I stand firmly with those who have condemned Kelly Okungbowa’s action, says Coordinator, Office of Edo First Lady

I, was shocked to hear about the assault on Mrs. Juliet Enabulele  Asein, a journalist with the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), allegedly perpetrated by Mr Kelly  Okungbowa during an event in Government House.

Let me state unequivocally that I stand firmly with all who have condemned this reprehensible act. It is a brutal violation of her dignity, her rights, and her safety as a woman and as a journalist. Such conduct is utterly unacceptable, intolerable, and must have no place in Edo State.

I, wish to reassure the public that His Excellency, Governor Okpebholo, maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward Gender-Based Violence. The Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law is clear, and anyone who violates it will face full prosecution without fear or favour.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to intensify efforts against violence toward women, especially during this period of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Edo State will not stand by while women are assaulted, intimidated, or silenced in any form.

I, have directed that all necessary actions be taken immediately. My office is already making contact with the victim to offer support, comfort, and any assistance required to ensure her wellbeing.

Women deserve safety. Journalists deserve protection and Edo State will continue to uphold these principles without hesitation.
