Civil rights campaigner and President of the Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) worldwide, a socio-cultural group, Elder Curtis Eghosa Ugbo, has charged the officers of the Delta State Police Command to let professional conduct be at play in their handling of the allegation of indecent assault of some former staff of Signatious Hotels and Suites by its proprietor, Barrister Kenneth Gbagi.
Elder Ugbo in his statement said that “the action of Barrister Gbagi, who resorted to removing all the items of clothing on the staff namely – Gloria Oguzie, Okiemute Diaghwarhe, Victor Ephraim and Mrs. Precious Archibong – based on unsubstantiated allegation of stealing and ordering his 15 year old son, Egba Gbagi, to take video recording of the scene and post it on social media channels smacks of an action that can only come from the weird imagination of a beast.”
The rights campaigner insist that “for Barrister Kenneth Gbagi to go into hiding for almost a year before honouring police invitation to clear the air on the issue shows that he has a case to answer and was only buying time.
“This should be all the police need to act honourably and ensure that the weird Barrister Kenneth Gbagi faces the full weight of the law and thus curb him of what many have alleged to his excesses over the years.
“It is unheard of that such a character as Barrister Gbagi could live in a community of sane people in the 21st century. The way the Delta State Police Command handle his case we go a long way in giving them a better image to counter the poor rating they were given that led to the endsars protest all over the country in 2020.”
Going further, Elder Ugbo said: “this is a case that the whole world is waiting to see how it ends and as such the police should threat it with professionalism.
“The members of the Nigeria Police Force are well rated in any international assignment that they are involved in so why their conduct in Nigeria is viewed with suspicion is what is baffling many people.
“This Barrister Kenneth Gbagi’s case will serve as a good litmus test for the police in Nigeria.”
