It is on record over the past twenty years in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria where incessant fire disaster and untimely death was on the increase on weekly basis as a result of the activities of illegal crude oil bunkering, a local process of refining crude oil popularly known as Kpo-Fire.

The menace also rendered young married ladies widows across ljaw riverine communities because most of their life partners ventured into the Kpo-Fire business due to its lucrative nature in making quick money.

To prove your doubt, take a tour to any of the ljaw riverine communities across Burutu, Warri South-West, Bomadi, Patani in Delta State, and Southern ljaw, Ekeremor, Nembe and Brass LGAs in Bayelsa State, you will discover that most youths are disfigured in many parts of their body as result of severe fire accidents that occured during cooking and burning (refining) of crude oil to kerosene, fuel and desiel for commercialization.

Though Kpo-Fire business is illegal but very lucrative in in the hands of the illegal refiners in terms of income generation but it is equally dangerous and more deadly than natural death.

In the process of locally refining the crude oil to fuel or kerosene, any slightest human error can result to one’s death or permanent disability which a mark of a saving grace from God upon the individual involved in the accident.

Since the Federal Government of Nigeria awarded the pipeline surveillance contract to the foremost Niger Delta ljaw freedom fighter cum human rights activist, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, the man behind Tantita Security Services Nig. Limited in August 2022 to check oil theft in the Niger Delta region, there has been no single record of fire accident neither sudden death as regards to Kpo-Fire activities in the riverine communities in the Niger Delta region.

Tompolo through the surveillance contract, has been able to meaningfully engage many stakeholders by awarding them jobs that make them become part of the project, thereby diverting their mindset from the life-taking risk of engaging in Kpo-Fire activities to other legitimate businesses in their various communities across the Niger Delta region.

Now that the people of Niger Delta have embraced a new lease of life and appreciated the good work of Tantita Security Services in safeguarding the nation’s critical assets, gradually, rescuing the once battered Niger Delta Environment as result of Kpo-Fire activities, it is very important that the current administration led by His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu should take advantage of the successes achieved so far by Tantita less than a year when it started operations.

The current administration will continue to enjoy more revenue growth and uninterrupted flow of crude oil for commercialization if the contract is sustained.

In addition, Federal government and the NNPCL should expand the contractual scope of Tantita Security Services Nig. Limited in order to effect the safety of Nigeria’s critical assets as well as increase the daily production of barrels of crude oil for both domestic consumption and export purpose.
