On Saturday, October 16th, 2021, the Garrick Memorial School field situated along Ekenwa Road, Benin, venue of the party to commemorate the burial of Ekassa music legend, Sir Victor Efosa Uwaifo, was brought alive with the electrifying performance of Peter Uwaifo (aka De Rock).
One after the other musicians slated to perform came on stage to dish out their stuff in memory of the Guitar Boy crooner with the audience offering claps in appreciation of their performance.
However, Peter stood out in the assessment of the large audience. As soon as he climbed the stage the story changed as his style of dressing, his tweak of the guitar strings, his mannerism and his dance steps were complete copy of the late music legend Sir Victor Uwaifo.
His performance was a complete show of reinventing Sir Uwaifo’s style such that the heavy downpour that welcomed him on stage did not stop him from doing his thing his ‘father’s’ way and to lay credence to the slogan the legend never dies.
To further show his dexterity ala Sir Uwaifo’s style he left the stage, jumped down into the rain and continued his flying performance. His performance got him a standing ovation and shout of the slogan ‘like father, like son’ as the audience acknowledged him.
Peter is a nephew of late Sir Victor Uwaifo being the son of his elder brother.
