As campaign for the House of Assembly election in Edo State hots up, the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has taken a “save me from APC impeachment” campaign to markets in Benin City.

It would be recalled that the state governor had last Friday during a meeting with women from the 12 wards and 619 units in Oredo Local Government Area (LGA) appealed for votes for the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) candidates in order to save him from the alleged plot of the All Progressives of Congress(APC) to impeach him if they have majority in the House of Assembly.

Acting on this premise the governor accompanied by some PDP stalwarts and the party’s candidates for the polls had on Tuesday stormed several markets in Benin metropolis to beg traders to save him and his government.

Some of the markets visited known to be occupied mainly by Igbo traders include the Uwelu and Evbareke Spare Parts markets in Egor Local Government Area, as well as the Oba and Tyre Dealers Markets in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing the traders at the market Obaseki said, “the election of Saturday, March 11, 2023, is our election in the state. My administration has been attending to roads, schools, healthcare, electricity, and fighting land grabbers in various communities across the state.

“We can’t do the road now at Evbareke because we need a drainage system first; we are working on that already. You need not make the mistake of voting for the wrong people as they will come into the system to disrupt our developmental strategy.

“They were there before but followed the instructions from their godfather as they didn’t resume at the assembly. They say they will impeach me when they come into the House.”

Obaseki, who also spoke on the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government of manipulating the elections to favour its candidates. He noted that after the Saturday, 25th February election, the people were discouraged. He however, urged them to come out and vote en masse to prove the riggers wrong.

According to him, “they can’t steal our votes at the center and still steal our votes in the state. They have started again to share money to their lions and tigers, empowering them to cause confusion in Edo. Please support the PDP in this election.”

Responding the Chairman of Auto Spare Parts Dealers Association, Evbareke Market, Osamuyi Iyamu, assured the governor of their support for the PDP in the forthcoming House of Assembly elections. Also, the Chairman of Uwelu Spare Parts Market, Osa Collins, commended the governor’s achievements across various sectors of the state.

“I am happy you are here with us. We know all you have been doing in the aspects of education, and electricity, among others,” he added.
