Group cautions LP over high price of governorship nomination forms

A group, Concerned Citizens of Edo State(CCES), a social political group has lamented the skyrocket price tag that is being placed on the Labour Party (LP) governorship nomination forms across the states of the federation.

In a statement signed by Mrs Onome Adun and Mr Silvester Osagie, the President and Secretary respectively of the group it raised the alarm at what it described as the “unjustifiable skyrocketing price” that the officials of the party have placed on its governorship forms.

According to the CCES, “it is shocking and unexpected that a party which hitherto was begging interested individuals to come and pick it’s nomination just barely five months ago can now be demanding for such astronomical fees like N25million from would be governorship aspirants.

“This is a huge contradiction to what many believe the party means to the masses of the people. The opinion of the people about the LP is that it is out to address the ills that has, over the years, been a clog in the wheels of Nigeria’s progress.

“This informed why Nigerians across board joined up with the Obidient train when Mr. Peter Gregory Obi and Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed secured the party’s Presidential and Vice Presidential tickets last year. Thus it is safe to say that the people see in LP, Obi and Datti a departure from the old order of the APC and PDP whereby moneybags call the shots.”

Going further, the CCES appealed to people of goodwill in the party “not to let some elements in the National Secretariat led by its national chairman, Julius Abure, whose stock-in-trade is to make huge profits through racketeering the nomination forms, to hijack the process.

“These elements have the blood of the old order politics style of APC and PDP in them and are only acting upon the goodwill that Mr Peter Obi enjoys from the populace to make a claim to popularity and acceptance. They should be told in clear terms that it will not be business as usual in Edo State where the people are yearning for change, a positive change not a quack assemble of crooks dressing themselves in borrowed garments.

“Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed stand for fairness and fairplay. The racketeers in the Labour Party should be called to order now. We cannot continue like this in Edo State and indeed Nigeria as a whole.”
