A group, National Coalition of Edo Voters has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu to step down from his position just as they disowned the result of the Presidential and National Assembly election as announced by the Commission.

According to the leader of the group, Olu Martins, while addressing a world press conference in Benin, warned that if the Mamood Yakubu led INEC does not uphold what it termed the authentic outcome of the Saturday, February 25th, 2023 poll it might inadvertently be inviting civil disobedience across the length and breadth of the country.

Martins declared that the declaration of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the poll, was an open invitation to confusion most especially as the announcement was met with sadness.

He assessed the poll as the worst so far in the history of Nigeria’s nascent democracy while also accusing the electoral umpires of colluding with the ruling party to rig it.

Martins disclosed that the ‘electoral fraud’ against LP’s Peter Obi would be reverted through the instrumentality of the court of law while appealing to the LP supporters to remain calm and focused while the legal option is pursued to a rightful conclusion.

He urged the party faithfuls to remain focused just as the issue is been handled while charging them to keep a daily sit at home approach at the National Museum grounds situated at Ring Road, Benin City starting from Friday, March 3rd, 2023.
