Ogbe Secondary School and Idia College both of Benin City have advanced to the finals of the 2025 edition of the Edo Governor’s Cup after dispatching their opponents in the semi finals at the Western Boys High School Mini Stadium.

Idia College in the female category defeated Umagbae Grammar School 6-0 in the first semi final match of the day to secure the final ticket.

The Man Of The Match(MOTM) award winning player, Favour Enodumwenben, bagged a hattrick while Agatha Imoisili delivered a brace with a goal from Precious John, helping the Idia Queens to humiliate their opponents and also set a record of appearing in three consecutive finals.

Idia College will face the winners of the second female semifinal match between Eguare Secondary School, Ekpoma and St. Angela Grammar School, Jattu in the finals on the 27th of May at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

In the second match of the day, Ogbe Secondary School edged out St. David’s Mixed Model Secondary School, Evboneka 2-1 to get to the finals.

After a goalless first half, Believe Osifo broke the deadlock 5 minutes into the second half, firing to beat the St. David’s Mixed School goalkeeper from outside the penalty area. After missing several opportunities, St. David’s Mixed Secondary School restored parity as Samuel Edafe dribbled the ball past the last man and then fired a shot past the goalkeeper from close range after Ogbe Secondary School defense line had failed to clear convincingly in their penalty area, with eleven minutes remaining from time.

The Western Boys High School Mini Stadium was thrown into wild jubilation and cheers when Samuel Ufor jumped better in an aerial contest to nod in the match winner for his team after Destiny Edokpolor’s well taken freekick went into the penalty area. Believe Osifo was named MOTM after a very impressive performance that earned him a goal.

With Ogbe qualifying for their first ever finals they’ll now wait till the weekend when St. Peters Grammar School, Agenebode will be taking on Agba Secondary School, Uromi.
