The Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC), has commiserated with the Kano State Government over the tragic loss of 22 members of the state’s contingent involved in a ghastly road accident while returning from the just concluded National Sports Festival(Gateway Games 2024) in Ogun State.
In a statement by the Head, Public Relations and Media Department, Edo State Sports Commission, Kehinde Osagiede, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Desmond Enabulele, his board and management affirmed their sadness “by the unfortunate incident which claimed the lives of patriotic citizens who were on national assignment.”
The Edo State Sports Commission boss described the incident as devastating and a monumental loss to the entire Nigerian sports community.
“It is with deep sorrow we extend our condolences to the Government of Kano State, Kano State Sports Commission and the National Sports Commission over the tragic incident.”
Going down memory lane, Enabulele recalled that “some of the deceased individuals were at the same venue with us during the Kickboxing event, cheering their team to victory that night only to hear that they are no more a few hours later.”
In conclusion, Enabulele submitted: “Our hearts are with the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, athletes and the people of Kano State. We pray that God accepts the souls of the departed and give their immediate families and friends the fortitude to beat the irreparable loss.”
