LlThe Security Situation Room strongly condemns the recent release of over 700 arrested terrorists by the Nigerian Defence Chiefs under the so-called “non-kinetic approach” to terrorism, describing it as an official endorsement of terrorism in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on the 23rd April, 2026, in Abuja by Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., Convener of the Security Situation Room, he declared: “The Security Situation Room is alarmed by the recent release of over 700 terrorists under the non-descript non-kinetic approach to terrorism, which is indeed an official endorsement of terrorism.
It is ironical that while our Generals and Colonels killed by terrorists are buried in solemn ceremonies at the late General Mai Malari Military Cemetery, those who are associated with the insurgents responsible for their deaths are released with pomp, ceremony and fanfare in the presence of foreign dignitaries, in glamorous ceremonies…”
The Security Situation Room insists that justice for fallen heroes cannot coexist with clemency for those who masterminded their deaths. The optics of celebrating the release of terror suspects while military widows mourn in silence sends a dangerous message: that terrorism pays.
We call on the Nigerian Defence Headquarters to: Halt all non-transparent releases of terror suspects without public trial; publish names and evidence against each released individual; prioritize victims and ⁶fallen soldiers in all counter-terrorism policies.
The war against terror cannot be won with contradictions. You cannot bury soldiers with gun salutes and release their killers with state receptions.
