In less than 15 days in office the Comrade Festus Alenkhe led SEC of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) has recorded streams of achievement in line with the acclaimed crime reporter’s well laid out manifesto of the things he needs to put right in the council.

Barely 48 hours in office, Alenkhe ensured that he kept his promise to make free WiFi services available for members in the vicinity of the Press Centre.

Thereafter, the conveniences in the centre which were hitherto a eyesore for many years were made to look sparkling new, clean and beautiful as the necessary facelift was given to the facility to the admiration of even those who were in opposing camps to Alenkhe in the run-up to the Friday, December 7th, 2021, poll.

Just now the team of engineers working on the Ossiomo Power Plant have paid a working visit to the Press Centre for a feasibility study. From their body language in the course of their working tour of the Press Centre in a few days to come there will be a step down and regular power will be supplied to the Centre.

Of course, the security of the facility, members and all that patronise it is of utmost importance to the newly sworn-in chairman who has gone ahead to install CCTV cameras and also security lights round the place.

Discussion is in top gear with consultants on the issue of the operation of a cooperative for the welfare of members.

The ultramodern Conference Hall/Library which hitherto has been under lock and key has been opened for use. Also worthy of mention is the fact that Alenkhe has held discussions with the Commissioner for Health, Obehi Akoria, and in no distant time free medical checkup for members would be a common occurrence.

Lest I forget, the Correspondent Chapel which has suffered almost two years of darkness in its office has been reconnected to power supply from BEDC and also the giant NUJ generating set.
