Towards checkmating the scourge of cancer especially amongst women, some medical experts have harped on the need for women to regularly check their status to put an end to cancer.
A medical practitioner, with the University of Benin, Dr. Mrs Toyin Faboya, gave the advice at a medical outreach organized by Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) in partnership with Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Edo State Chapter held at Doctors House, Ugbowo, Benin City.
Dr. Faboya urged women to always go for regular gynaecological examination including Papsmear, Mammography, practice of safe sex which she said was the most important step towards the prevention of cervical cancer. She stressed the importance of screening of the cervix, noting that early detection was key to curing the disease. She noted that surgery, radiation and chemotherapy were the main treatment optons for cervical cancer.
Some female journalists who were beneficiaries of the excercise noted that it afforded them the opportunity to know how to do self breast examination and other genealogical tests to enable them maintain healthy lifestyle. They enjoined other women to join in the fight for early detection of cancer as it was a better and surest way to treat and or manage the disease.
Earlier in a remark, Edo State Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan, thanked the MWAN for collaborating with NAWOJ, and her members for participating in the exercis. This is the second phase of the exercise with the first phase held in March.
