International Women’s Day: Stakeholder sues for regular gynaecological check up

As Nigeria celebrates this year’s International Women’s Day, a medical practitioner, with the University of Benin, Dr (Mrs) Toyin Faboya, has advised women to always go for regular gynaecological examination.

She stated this at the medical check up organized by Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) held in Benin City.

This they could do by getting Papsmear tests, practicing of safe sex which she said was the most important step towards the prevention of cervical cancer.

She noted however that surgery, radiation and chemotherapy were the main treatment options for cervical cancer. Dr Faboya equally taught women how to carry out self breast examination.

Some female journalists who were beneficiaries of the excercise noted that it afforded them the opportunity to know how to do self breast examination and other genealogical tests to enable them remain healthy

They, therefore enjoined other women to join in the fight for early detection of cancer as early detection was a better and surest way to treat or manage the disease.

Edo State Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan, thanked the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, (MWAN) Edo State for collaborating with NAWOJ Edo State and her members for participating in the medical check up.

The theme for this year’s International Women Day is gender equality, in today for a sustainable tomorrow.
