This is not the best of times for Osaro Grace Aihie, erstwhile Managing Director (MD) of the Edo Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), the agency that manages land administration and information in Edo State.
For several months now she has been a regular caller at the Benin office of the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), on what is said to be the role she played in a horde of controversial land deals in the then Governor Godwin Obaseki era in Edo State.
Reliable sources disclosed that on almost daily basis she calls at the anti-graft agency office to supply documents that had to do with some shady land deals in her time at the EDOGIS.
Popular News impeccably gathered that one of the deals which has back fired and put her in a fix is the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy(CofO) of a sizeable portion of land in a section of the GRA part of Benin City which was hitherto owned by some influential politicians but which she revoked and reallocated to others in opposing political camps and herself.
It would be recalled that at the height of her reign as the MD of EDOGIS she was also the Permanent Secretary (PS) Ministry of Physical Planning, Urban & Regional Development (MPPURD).
She was instrumental in the plot by the then Governor Godwin Obaseki to acquire the expanse of land on which the Edo State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) in Benin is situated and so many controversial demolition of structures.
Said our source,”with the way the whole issue is going Aihie needs God’s intervention to escape a jail term for the role she played in those dark days of forceful land acquisition and demolition of structures by the Edo State Government.”
