The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC), Desmond Enabulele, has said that the upcoming Edo State Sports Festival is designed to serve as a platform for rehearsal for young athletes and discovery of new talents that will represent Edo State at the National Sports Festival(NSF) in Ogun State.
He made the disclosure during a meeting with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Lucky Eseigbe in his office on Thursday.
Enabulele said that the sports festival aligns with the sports development programme of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.
According to him, the festival, scheduled to hold from April 21st to May 1st, 2025, will help prepare the state athletes for the forthcoming National Sports Festival, slated for May 16th to 30th, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“It is essential to ensure that this event helps maintain our position as a sports powerhouse in the country,” Enabulele stated, highlighting the significance of organizing a memorable and high-quality sporting event.
Enabulele was enthusiastic that many promising talents would be discovered and nurtured through the Edo State Sports Festival to reinforce the state sports contingent for the Ogun games. He noted that untapped talents will play significant roles in the success of the state.
Enabulele emphasized the importance of participation in the Edo State Sports Festival by all the 18 local government areas (LGAs) in Edo State, urging Barrister Eseigbe to galvanize support from local government acting chairmen to ensure athletes receive the best support.
Speaking, Commissioner Eseigbe assured Enabulele of his unwavering support, pledging to engage all the stakeholders across the LGAs to ensure the success of the sports festival.
