Edo State Deputy Governor’s Official lodge situated at Commercial Avenue in GRA, Benin City was invaded on Thursday just as the result of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) parallel governorship primary emerged showing that he was victorious.
Like a bolt from the sky, the state government owned security agencies operatives, armed to the teeth, amidst the jollification and backslapping of the delegates, emerged firing pot shots into the gathering in the process causing grievous body injuries to some of them.
In the melee that ensued many of the delegates, who had earlier been denied participation in the other primary held at the Ogbemudia Stadium because of their perceived loyalty to Comrade Shaibu, were left to nurse the fallout of the unprovoked attack on them.
Most affected in the unprovoked attack was Hon. Sunny Okumayin (aka Big Moon), a seasoned politician, who is an unrepentant supporter of Comrade Shaibu’s governorship aspiration.
The invasion, a direct violation of the Deputy Governor’s immunity under the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), is seen as a deliberate and calculated attempt to intimidate, hurt and suppress him by the powers that be in the state.
