The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, on Tuesday received the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, in his office in Benin City.
In his remarks, Comrade Osagiede applauded the emergence of Enabulele as the Executive Chairman of the Commission and commended his dynamic leadership style.
“We are proud of your achievements, particularly your policy against the poaching of athletes and your commitment to grassroots development, which is already yielding positive results for Edo State. Your achievements have also attracted commendations from the National Secretariat of SWAN. One of the reasons for our visit is to strengthen our partnership and cement our ties, because we are partners in progress,” he said.
The SWAN Chairman emphasized the inseparable bond between sports administrators and journalists, noting that while administrators design and implement policies, journalists amplify their impact by telling the story to the world. He also used the occasion to brief the Commission boss on the forthcoming SWAN Week, which will feature sporting activities with a special focus on disciplines that are yet to gain mainstream attention.
Responding Enabulele expressed delight at the courtesy visit and appreciated the leadership of SWAN for their continued support.
“The Commission and Edo SWAN already enjoy a strong working relationship, given that the State Chairman also works directly with us at the Commission. This means our partnership is already well-established. I pledge to continually identify with Edo SWAN, to support their initiatives, and to consolidate on our existing collaboration. As far as sports development in Edo is concerned, we are in it together,” he said.
Enabulele further appreciated Edo SWAN members for their outstanding contributions to sports reportage and development in the state, stressing that sports journalism plays a pivotal role in projecting the achievements of athletes, coaches, and administrators alike.
The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation and a renewed commitment to collaboration aimed at strengthening sports reportage and driving holistic sports development in Edo State.
