Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC), Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, have stated that those calling for his redeployment are ignorant of how the Commission operates.

On the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC’s) preparations for the Saturday, August 16th bye-elections in Ovia Federal Constituency and Edo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Onuoha said: “We have done a lot in preparation for this  bye-election. Our BVAS have been configured and charged for the election. We have had series of trainings.

“Non-sensitive materials have been dispatched to the various local government areas according to the units and wards. We’re going to have a seamless election.”

Going forth, Onuoha said “no election will appear to be successful without the involvement of the people. People should be involved from the proccess of the election to the election day. It’s a process that has started and would end on the 16th of this month. Election does not begin with INEC and end with INEC.”

On the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling on the 2024 Edo  Governorship election, Onuoha stressed, “the Supreme Court of Nigeria has said that we conducted a credible election. So anybody that’s saying otherwise is not talking the truth. The highest court in the land has spoken in favour of INEC. I expect you people to congratulate us.”

Responding to enquiries on if the LP is participating in the Edo Central Senatorial bye-election he stated that when the INEC asked the registered political parties to express interest in the election the LP was not among the 14 of them that showed interest thus the INEC didn’t monitor its primaries.

Dr. Onuoha disclosed that 101,617 voters cards are still in INEC’s possession as their owners are yet to collect them.
