Defending champions of the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL), Edo Queens Football Club of Benin, is set to storm IIorin next week where they will trade tackles with Ekiti Queens Football Club of Ado- Ekiti in the reverse fixtures of the NWFL for 2024/25 season.
The game which is expected to kickoff by 4pm local time will take place on Friday, March 19th, 2025 at the IIorin Township Stadium, Kwara State. Recall, Edo Queens thrashed Ekiti Queens 3-0 in the first leg played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.
The NWFL premiership title holders who have been in superb form this season under coach Moses Aduku, will be aiming to establish their title race credentials as the ancient City Queens wish to strengthen their qualification hopes with a victory over Ekiti Queens.
Currently second in group A, with 14 points from 7 games, the atmosphere at Edo Queens training ground on Saturday was bubbling with action after the Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC) boss, Desmond Enabulele, reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring massive boost to the club as a way of motivating them to retaining the NWFL trophy and also return to the continent.
For Edo Queens, it is a must -win game. To confirm their readiness to return to the continent, Edo Queens management recently recruited five quality players to beef up the squad for the second half of the premiership. These players will no doubt bring their professional experience to bear.
Edo Queens is ready to replicate the successes of last season as the technical crew aim to turn them into contenders for the top-flight crown once more. The people of Edo State would be happy to see the state flag eventually get hoisted among the comity of states at the 2025 Super 6, and at the continental showpiece.
With 16 goals in the first quarter, the Benin-City based Queens are ready to score more goals in this second round matches to prove their superiority over others in the group and then go top in group A.
Returning from IIorin, Edo Queens will travel to Abia State for another away game against Abia Angels in NWFL match day 9. It is also important to note that Edo Queens have not lost any match since the commencement of the 2024/25 season.
