Edo Queens master dribbler, Goodness Osigwe’s 45th minute Superb goal gave the defending champions an all important 1-0 win over Bayelsa Queens FC in the win or burst Super Six classic match played today at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The dangling winger who came in as a substitute before the end of the half hour, grabbed her first goal of the competition when she tapped in Emem Essien’s pass across the six- yard box, beating goalkeeper Monle Omini, of Bayelsa Queens to it.
The moment the stylish Osigwe came in, Edo Queens attacking line up was ignited, and she wasted no time in proving her wing play prowess. Just at the dot of the 45th minute she stylishly netted in the first goal of the game bringing the first 45th minutes of the match to an end.
At the resumption of the second half, both teams came out looking more angry for goals, Edo Queens became more mobile mounting pressure on Bayelsa Queens.
Bayelsa Queen’s striker had a one-one encounter with Edo Queens goalkeeper, Uzoma Ijeoma, but her magnificent save denied Bayelsa Queens an equalizer.
Goodness Osigwe, made several attempts to increase the goal
tally but Monle Omini, was always there on time to remedy the situation.
Chioma Moses, was on hand to finish off a rapid- fire counter- attack that would have made it 2-0 just few minutes to the end but hit the wood works.
It was a thrilling game number 4 for Edo Queens who are on course to win back the prestigious Super Six trophy. They will now tackle Nasarawa Amazons in their last game.
With today’s victory, the defending champions have played four games, lost one, drew one and won two. They have seven points to their credit same as Bayelsa Queens from the same number of matches.
