Commissioner of Police(CP), Edo State Police Command, Muhammed Adamu Dankwara, has thrown his weight behind women journalists in the State.

Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Benin City during a courtesy call paid on him by the executives of the Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ), Dankwara promised that the police will partner with them in fighting against rape, defilement, cultism and Gender Based Violence(GBV).

Mr. Dankwara said, “we are going to form a synergy with you in order to curb crimes and criminalities in Edo State. Please be free to report any erring policeman or officer using the force to intimidate any innocent citizen. We are civil in the discharge of our duty and we shall continue to sanitize the system through thorough means.

“On Gender Based Violence (GBV), be free to contact the necessary departments. We are counting on you in this regard. Women are a force to reckon with and we shall continue to partner with you and the entire journalists in the State.”

Earlier, the Chairperson, Edo NAWOJ, Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan, informed the Police Boss that NAWOJ is seeking a means to have relevant information on gender based issues.

According to her, “we want to appreciate you on the resilient fight against cultism in the state which is now becoming a thing of the past gradually. Embarking on policing without fear and favor, ensuring that suspects do not stay more than twenty four hours in police cell.

“The policemen and officers are now seen in full sanity because of your style of leadership. The issue of rape, defilement, child labour, forced marriage, gender based violence and all others are issues bothering the Edo NAWOJ. We are seeking your support on this and we trust you will synergize with us in order to curb such occurrences and reoccurrences.

“We on our side shall give adequate publicity to your good works so as to ensure crime is brought to its barest minimum in the state,” she said.
