Rising from the well attended last Congress of the year 2022 held on Friday, December 30th, members of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have placed implicit confidence on the Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe and his exco members.
Having reeled out the administration’s chain of achievements in one year in office which among others included installation of CCTV for security surveillance; 24 hours power supply to the Press Centre, courtesy of Ossiomo Power Project by Edo State Government;
renovation of toilet facilities; reactivation of water supply to the Press Centre; activation of the process to recovery of NUJ landed property; involvement of Edo Journalists into SACA media team; setting up of NUJ Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society; enrollment of Journalists into Edo State Health Insurance Scheme; relocation and construction of prayer point for Muslim journalists.
Others included training of 30 Journalists on Basic First Aid Response; financial empowerment for journalists through credit facilities; elimination of illegal occupants at the Press Centre; held first ever Edo Journalists Classic Dinner; held first ever Edo Journalists Picnic; erection of two pillars at the foyer of the NUJ Secretariat Complex; total facelift of NUJ Secretariat Complex, including the painting; facilitated processing and renewal of International Passport for journalists in Edo State in preparation for foreign tour and evacuation of abandoned vehicles in the Press Centre.
Others on the list included facilitated GT Plaza outlet in the Press Centre; facilitated appointment of journalists into various government committees; 24 hours patrol of the NUJ Press Centre by armed security men; 3- day Medical Outreach for Journalists; setting up of Edo NUJ Cooperative Society; flooring of the space at the back of NUJ Secretariat Complex; marking of the car park lot to ensure orderliness in the parking of vehicles; hold periodic prayer session to intercede for journalists and free Health Care for journalists.
Moving the motion for the repose of confidence on Comrade Alenkhe and his team was Comrade Francis Akhigbe of Reliance Chapel seconded by Kadiri Aloye of the same chapel.
Meanwhile, two new chapels were given the Council’s approval and presented to the Congress. They are Super FM Chapel and KU/Speed FM Chapel. The two chapels were admonished to get their executive members in place in order for the council to get them inaugurated.
