Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) has charged its members to continue to maintain the norms of the profession at all times to earn public trust.

Journalists in the state were urged not to undermine the need to balance their reports to avoid unnecessary litigations, and in another breath, expressed concerns over government information hoarding, stressing the need to open its doors for Journalists to cross-check data in line with the information act.

This formed part of the communique issued at the close of the June 2023 edition of council’s monthly Congress held at its secretariat in Benin City on Tuesday afternoon with its Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe presiding.

The Council gave kudos to the giant killing Bendel Insurance FC of Benin for winning the prestigious Federation Cup recently after 43 years in limbo.

Commendation was also given to the Edo State Government for creating a three days new work plan for the state civil servants as part of palliative measures to cushion the fuel hike occasioned by the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

Still on the Edo State Government, the council hailed the approval of 13th month salaries for civil servants in the state describing it as one of the steps that are capable of encouraging a work-friendly environment. The council also lauded the state government for offering automatic employment, to first-class graduates of the state’s lineage.

The Congress unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the executives of the Council for its transformation activities, after taking an assessment of its performances for the last one and a half years of a three-year tenure.
