The Council also charged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, do the needful to ensure that the lingering ASUU strike, which has crippled the University System for over six months now, should be called off forthwith, inorder to restore confidence in the education sector.

Going further, the Council commended the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, for visiting Journalists at the Press Center recently and for his unrelenting and spirited efforts at checking crimes and criminality in the State.

The Council also commended the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, ÅŒba Ewuare Il, over the recent appointment of a member of the Union, Osaigbovo Iguobaro as his Chief Press Secretary(CPS).

It called on security agencies in the state to sustain the war against kidnapping, cult- related killings and other crimes in the highways within the state.

The Council condemned the nagging issue of land grabbing, community unrest and other related crimes in the state while it resolved that, on no account should its premises (NUJ Press Center) be used as rallying point for unlawful assembly, particularly for protesters.

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, was commended for assuring that no staff of the state-owned media organization, The Nigerian Observer, will be sacked as a result of the ongoing massive and digital renovation, reformation and restructuring in the premises and urged him to speed up work in the sector to enable staff who have been temporarily dislocated to return to their Beat.

The Congress which was presided over by the Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, had in attendance, other executive members of the Council, the NAWOJ chairperson and Journalists drawn from the 13 Chapels of the Union.
