Comrade Kingsley Ireotoi, the acting Secretary of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), has warned the erstwhile Chairman of the Congress, Comrade Odion Olaye, who was impeached on Monday, November 11th, 2024 and replaced with Comrade Bernard Joman in acting capacity, to desist from his impersonating attitude as the workers are comfortable with the leadership capabilities of Comrade Joman from which they have been benefiting tremendously.
According to Comrade Ireotoi, “Edo State has just one council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by one Chairman, who by the reason of a collective effort of the State Executive Committee(SEC) on November 11, 2024, impeached the erstwhile Chairman, Comrade Odion Olaye and the emergence since then of Comrade Bernard Joman as acting Chairman.
“He has shown to all of us that he’s in charge and the entire SEC members are in support of his actions working together and attending meetings with the state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo and other government functionaries with whom the Chairman, Comrade Joman have been interacting on the issues of labour.
“We’re happy and better because these are things that the erstwhile Chairman, Comrade Olaye, shied away from because of reasons we don’t know. The Edo State workers today are happy. May 1st will provide us an opportunity for Comrade Joman to give reports of all that he has done on behalf of labour.
“It also gives Mr. Governor an opportunity to be with us and state these facts. These are not any of the programmes that Comrade Olaye would want to appear. We advice him to stay away from labour. Once again we reaffirm that Comrade Bernard Joma is the only Chairman of the NLC and is in-charge of the Labour House.”
On the action of Comrade Olaye still claiming to be the Chairman of the Edo NLC, Comrade Ireotoi stressed: “Odion Olaye’s action is tantamount to impersonating the person of our Chairman, Comrade Bernard Joman. We will address the Press on that. We will report this issue to the necessary security apparatus and the state government that has given cognisance and recognition to the Edo State workers as led by Comrade Joman.
“For those institutions still accommodating Comrade Olaye we are doing our best to visit some of these institutions to correct his impersonating attitude. We have visited so many. We will be visiting the Press too from where he has enjoyed the leverage of talking to the public and giving an impression that he is still relevant in the scheme of things. Again, I want to state that he’s not. The least person in Edo State is aware.”
He charged workers in the state “to rally around our Chairman, Comrade Joman. The few dissident individuals have pledged their loyalty. Today, we will say that we’re all together. As we celebrate our day on May 1st we want to tell Edo State workers that it’s our expectations that our governor has a lot of surprise for us.”
