Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has met with wives of Dukes (Enigies) in the state to sensitise them on the need to re-elect the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, in the September 19 governorship election.

The meeting followed series of engagements between the First Lady and different women groups in the state to ensure the re-election of Governor Obaseki.

Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki in her interactive session with the Enigies’ wives asked them to judge as mothers whether it is in the best interest of the people to mortgage the future of the state and the children, to satisfy a few people, and whether the state has not fared better in the past three and a half years under Governor Obaseki.

She further said that people get the government they deserve and that now is the time for the people of Edo State to stand for good governance.

The Edo State First Lady expressed concern over the level of deception, desperation and the total lack of self respect displayed by some politicians who have shown that they are willing to do anything to gain power, and have made themselves a laughing stock among the people.

She said she expected them to campaign and sell their manifesto rather than tell lies and employ the services of thugs to unleash violence on the people, all because they have nothing to offer.

In the interactive session with her Excellency, the women said that they were pleased with His Excellency Godwin Obaseki and were not happy with the travails that befell him in the APC. They assured her of their loyalty and support for the Governor and made a few requests concerning some schools and roads in their communities which Her excellency assured them will be addressed.

The Enigies’ wives who were very excited about the visit, assured Her Excellency of their unflinching support for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s second term bid, citing his developmental strides in the educational sector, road construction, human capital development, empowerment and job creation among others.

For them this is unprecedented despite the many distractions and disturbances, further compounded by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Coordinator of the Enigie Wives Association, Stella Aigbe Esq., said she is campaigning for good governance based on what they have seen on ground.

She added: “If you enter the State Secretariat Complex and take a photograph there, people would think you took the picture in Europe. If not anything, the Ossiomo Power plant alone that has been licenced, the prospect of having power supply is enough to vote Obaseki. Because when there is power there will be industrialisation, there will be more jobs, people will be comfortable, life will be easier.

“I am campaigning for good governance which we currently have under Governor Godwin Obaseki.  You have spoken well and that is the truth and I am happy with this government. When all the trouble started many people were not happy, but we thank God for everything, that everything is on course now.”
