Edo FA Cup 2026: The frills and thrills of Round Two, Day One

The 2026 Edo FA Cup continued in exciting fashion on Day One of the Round Two fixtures, as teams battled fiercely for a place in the next stage of the prestigious state competition. All matches were played at the UBTH Sports Complex in Benin City, where fans were treated to an entertaining display of grassroots football at its finest.

In the opening fixture of the day, Delight FA edged past Dynamo Academica FC in a closely contested encounter that ended 2-1. Delight FA wasted no time asserting their presence, taking the lead in the 16th minute through Chuka Nwaigwe, whose early strike set the tone for the match. They doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with Felix Atetan finding the back of the net in the 51st minute to give his side a comfortable cushion.

Dynamo Academica FC, however, showed resilience and determination as they pushed forward in search of a comeback. Their efforts paid off in the 77th minute when Ayemogie Purpose pulled one back, setting up a tense finish. Despite late pressure, Delight FA held firm to secure a deserved victory and advance to the next round.

The second match of the day saw Shola FC claim a narrow but important 1-0 win over BJ Foundation FC. In what was a tightly contested affair, both sides struggled to break the deadlock for much of the game. It took a moment of brilliance in the 67th minute from Ujukwu Emmanuel to separate the teams, as his decisive strike proved enough to seal qualification for Shola FC.

In the final match of the day, St Andrews FC delivered a commanding performance to defeat Insurance Feeders FC 2-0. The standout performer of the match was Edozue Kenneth, who scored twice to secure victory for his side.

He opened the scoring early in the 11th minute, giving St Andrews FC the perfect start. Kenneth later returned in the 74th minute to double the lead, effectively putting the game beyond reach and confirming a dominant display.

Overall, Day One of Round Two showcased the competitive spirit, emerging talents, and growing quality of grassroots football in Edo State. With more fixtures to come, anticipation continues to build as teams push closer to Edo FA Cup glory.
