According to the information reaching Popular News Sports desk from the Edo State Football Association(EDFA) all is set for the 2nd edition of the prestigious Oba of Benin football tournament amongst under 18 male teams in Edo State.
The tournament that is organised by the association is expected to kick of Tuesday, 10th of December 2024, at the Crescent Sports Club, Irhiri, in Benin City, with 19 teams from across the state participating.
Meanwhile, the media parley/draws for the tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, 7th December, 2024 at the Media Centre of the remodeled Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City by 11am.
The Chairman of the FA, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, disclosed that all logistics has been put in place for a succesful tournament in honour of His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, the Oba of Benin, as he celebrates the annual Igue Festival this December, he called on the participating teams to ensure they attend the draws for the tournament this weekend.
Some of the teams that will compete for honours in the 2nd edition of the tournament are Worshippers FC, United FC, Unique FC, Supreme FC, Efe-Urhocity FC, Delight FC, Edo Dynamo Sports Foundation FC and Favour FC.
Others are Shooting Arrows FC, BJ FC, Rolly FC, Bendel Insurance Feeders FC, Rockers FC, Daddy Bazuaye FC, City Rovers FC, London FC, Dynamo Academica, Angels FC and St. Andrews Foundation FC.
The tournament is sponsored by a United States of America based ex – player, Michael Ogbebor popularly known as Obanta. The tournament is expected to climax on the 26th of December 2024( Boxing Day) at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City.
