In preparation for the Edo State 2024 governorship election primaries, the immediate past two-term senator who represented Edo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly(NASS), has said he will respect the party’s decision.
Senator Urhoghide, who is eyeing the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 2024 guber poll in Edo State, explained that he would not oppose a governor from Edo Central if his party zoned it to Edo Central, but he would only contest if the ballot were open to all.
According to Urhoghide, who joined the APC recently, “If the APC zones Edo Central for governorship position, I won’t run. However, if it zones it to Edo South or throws open the ticket, I will contest.”
It will be recalled that at the height of his days of glory in the red chambers of the national assembly Senator Urhoghide was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, a position that is rated as the highest in the NASS.
He lost his return bid for a third tenure in the Senate where he would have been in contention for the position of the Senate President due to the infighting in the Edo State Chapter of his then party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the run up to the 2023 general elections.
