Barrister Washington Osa Osifo, who is aspiring to govern Edo State in 2024 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described himself as a real ‘home boy.’
In a chat with Popular News, the erstwhile Commissioner for Education in the cabinet of the then Governor Adams Oshiomhole said: “What ‘Home Boy’ means is when you’re at home with your family. The family of a man is the society he belongs to.
“For me, I come from Edo society. When I say, Edo I am talking of the Benins, the people of Edo North and the Esan people. I am your son, your brother, your friend. That’s what resonates with me. I am here.”
On the much talked about issue of zoning of the governorship seat, Osifo stated that “zoning is a principle that suggest the rotation of power whether appointed or elective offices. But there are schools of thought one opposite and diverse to the other that there should be zoning.
“Those agitating, particularly from the Esan region, have a right. They have a right to say it is their turn and ask the two other senatorial districts to support them. It is a clarion call. It is a call that is good enough.
“However, the party (APC) is also a structure. What the party is after is to win election. What the party is thinking is a particular trajectory that the thing can give them the winning. It is the winning mentality that we all carry. That’s why the party has come out to rule it out that there will be no zoning.
“I tried to fight that there should be zoning and I am convinced but the party continuously maintain the position that there has never been zoning and we will not start it now that I come into the ring. As a loyal party man I have to submit myself to the service of my people.”
