Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor(aka Ultimate Equal), the Director of Contact and Mobilization of the Labour Party (LP) in the Diaspora, has expressed his anger at the attack of the campaign billboards of the party’s standard bearer in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, Barrister Olumide Akpata.

Exhibiting his angst about the development, Chief Eholor opined that the action of the political thugs cum cultists, whom he alleged are sponsored by the state government, falls short of decent manners, adding that nobody has monopoly of violence and as such the unbecoming action is likely to fetch an equal level of response from the opposition elements.

He lambasted the law enforcement agents who must have seen the destruction but kept mute leaving the perpetrators to walk freely on the streets as if nothing unusual happened.

In keeping mute while the miscreants engaged in the open destruction of the opposition billboards, the suspects and their sponsors have violated relevant sections of the country’s constitution which are against such acts and spell out different range of punishment for anyone caught engaged in such destruction.

Section 92(6) of the Electoral Act stipulates that ”during the period of campaigning, the State apparatus including the media, law enforcement agencies and security services shall not be employed to the advantage or disadvantage of any political party, candidate or aspirant.”
