Edo 2020 update: Tonjor sisters make Edo proud in swimming

The Tonjor sisters, Rachael and Sandra, are household names in the world of swimming where they have represented Nigeria in different international meets including the Olympic Games.

At the ongoing National Sports Festival, the thin framed sisters were cynosure of all eyes when they led Edo State to the gold medal with a sizzling performance in the 4 by 200m freestyle  relay race with a national record to spice it.

Talking about their achievement, Rachael said that they and their coaching crew put in a lot of work to get the gold medal considering that the games suffered series of postponement as a result of the covid-19 worldwide pandemic and nobody was sure that it would eventually hold.

“The serial postponement of this National Sports Festival did not help matters. We never knew that it will eventually take place. Our coaching crew did a good job in preparing us for the task and thank God that we came up with the gold medal.

Rachael recommended for regular competitions to keep the swimmers in shape unlike what presently obtains whereby there is only one competition throughout a year.

Her kid sister, Sandra, chipped in a word. She advocated for educational scholarship for athletes so that they can be inspired to give their best in their endeavours.
