The President Standup for Women Society (SWS), Barrister Deborah Ijadele-Adetona, has called on Nigerian Women not to accept the word impossible as everything is possible with determination. She made the call while inaugurating the FCT SWS Executives at the Tangier Hotel, Abuja.

In her two page address she called on Nigerian Women to wake up to their responsibilities of being care givers. Adding that every woman must pick an enclave to touch lives. She commended the executives of the FCT SWS for hitting the ground running with the Empowerment Project, adding that this is a summary of SWS objectives.

Earlier in her welcome address the Chairperson Lib Fatima Ibrahim-Iyal, called on Nigerians to always make out time to run general body check up, to determine their health status. She announced cash donations of N10,000 to 20 beneficiaries and a sewing machine to Mrs Bridget Chukwu the widow of Engineer Ifeanyi Chukwu who slumped and died due to high blood pressure.

The Theme Speaker, Ambassador Evelyn Eyo-Honesty Ogbogu, the National Coordinator, Child Education and Crime Eradication Foundation(CECEF), called on the 11 states yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act, to do so as soon as possible as they cannot continue to pay lip service to issues affecting the Girl Child.

Ambassador Ogbogu noted that women have severally been tagged liabilities but she assured Nigerians that every woman is an asset in her family and noted that the time to educate the girl child and empower the women is now.

Ambassador Evelyn Ogbogu stated that the theme”Women Are Assets Not Liabilities: Educate the Girl Child and Empower the Women” is very timely. She announced that CECEF will partner SWS in the future and invited them to her 21st anniversary.

Side attractions included health talks from Grace Oshinyemi of Jigsimur, Mary Lawani of Imerri and Spax Republic all spoke on the importance of taking care of yourself as a woman. As well as financial benefits of keying into the products.

The National President, SWS presented the sewing machine to a representative of the family, Ms Asari Edet, while the Zonal Coordinator, Ladi Dinci Emmanuel presented the cash support to the recipients. While commending the FCT Chapter she urged the newly inaugurated executives to be United and stay focused to achieve their goals.

Ms Asari Edet, who spoke on behalf of the recipients, thanked SWS FCT chapter for this noble act and promised to spread the good news about what SWS stands for. She noted that she has seen many NGOs who just pay lip service to humanity but SWS truly stands out.
