Delight FC has emerged champions of the Oba of Benin Under 18 Football Tournament. They defeated Irex Sports FC 2-1 in an exciting showdown at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin on Thursday evening.
Spectators were held spell bound as the two finalists displayed soccer artistry. The tournament was sponsored by US based Michael Ogbebor(Obanta) who in his youth days was a splendid soccer star in Benin City.
Meanwhile, Hon. Engr. Esosa Iyawe, the member representing Oredo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, on Thursday redeemed his pledge to Edo State Football Association as he donated a mini bus to the Chairman of the Association, Fred Newton Erhunmwunsee, as part of his contribution to the state’s sports development.
Hon Iyawe handed over the keys of the mini bus to Erhunmwunsee during the grand finale of the Oba of Benin Under-18 Football Tournament at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Iyawe reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to his empowerment and youth development scheme, saying that his constituent will continue to benefit from the mini bus distribution scheme. He promised that he will continue to support and sponsor sporting activities, emphasizing the critical role sports play in shaping the social life of the youth.
“Our young people are the leaders of tomorrow, and it is our collective responsibility to provide them with platforms to thrive. Sports is one of such platforms that do not only unite us but also empowers our youth to achieve greatness,” he stated.
Hon. Iyawe called on other well-meaning Nigerians to collaborate with the government in empowering the youth, urging them to support initiatives that foster growth and development.
Receiving the mini bus, Erhunmwunsee thanked the donor for the kind gesture. The Edo Football Association boss described Honourable Iyawe’s donation as a major boost to their operations, saying that the Oredo representative has proven his passion for youth and sports development.
