Edo State Government has concluded a 2-day training of school heads and teachers across public and private schools on coronavirus (COVID-19) preventive measures ahead of resumption of academic activities for all educational institutions in the state scheduled for Monday, February 1, 2021.

Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Osawonyi Irowa disclosed this to journalists during a press conference in Benin City, the state capital.

Irowa said the training was organised by the ministries of health and education, noting that appropriate circulars on the role of schools, students and pupils have also been circulated.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that enforcement for compliance of non-pharmaceutical intervention, including consistent, proper and compulsory wearing of face masks; hand washing and strict observance of physical distancing, is being actively conducted across the state by the risk communication and security pillars of the COVID-19 State Task force with the support of the Mobile Courts.

According to him, “The State Government through the Ministry of Health and Education has just concluded a 2-day training of School heads and Teachers across public and private schools on COVlD-19 preventive measures and appropriate circulars on the role of schools, students and pupils have also been circulated.

Reassuring the state government’s commitment to containing the pandemic, Irowa stated: “The State has procured additional PPEs for distribution to Health Facilities across the State to address rising health care worker infection and decontamination of facilities affected with strict measures to address compliance to standard precaution and other lPC preventive measures.

“Case management for critical care is being strengthened to ensure delivery of clean oxygen and other critical care support needed to manage severe cases of COVID-19.”

The State Government through the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., had on Friday announced that educational institutions in the state, from primary schools to tertiary institutions, are to resume academic activities effective from Monday, February 1, 2021.

He noted that the directive was given after due consultations with the institutions and their representatives to ascertain their preparedness to abide by the state’s COVID-19 prevention protocol in their operations, urging the schools to fully comply with the state government’s guidelines to guard against the spread of the deadly virus.
