In a landmark event that brought together student leaders from across the Niger Delta region, the Niger Delta Student Union Government (NIDSUG) recently held its highly anticipated Unity Convention 2023. The outcome of this convention has ushered in a new era of leadership for the prestigious organization, with Comrade Scott Uyiosasere Ogunseri emerging as the National President elect.

Comrade Ogunseri, an indigene of Edo State and a student of the prestigious University of Benin, Department of Computer Science, has long been recognized for his exceptional leadership skills and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the interests of students.

The Unity Convention, which took place on July 8, 2023, at the Rivers State University, witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Chancellor and the Dean of Students of the institution.

The election process saw a keenly contested race for various positions within the NIDSUG, and for the office of National President, a dramatic tie occurred between two candidates, each receiving 18 votes.

To resolve the deadlock, a bye election was conducted on Tuesday, 25th July 2023, at Hall 1, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt. The bye election brought together one delegate from each of the nine states in the Niger Delta region to cast their votes.

In the bye election, Comrade Ogunseri displayed remarkable support and secured a clear majority with 7 votes, while his opponent got 2 votes out of the total 9 votes cast.

With this decisive victory, Comrade Ogunseri has been duly elected as the National President of NIDSUG, a position that holds great significance in representing and advocating for the welfare of students across the Niger Delta region.

Upon his victory, Comrade Ogunseri expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and trust placed on him. He vowed to work tirelessly to reshape the narrative of NIDSUG positively and embark on initiatives that would elevate the Union to greater heights.

He also extended a hand of camaraderie to all candidates who contested and lost, urging them to join forces with his administration in the pursuit of collective progress.

Meanwhile, the he newly elected national executive of the NIDSUG led by Comrade Ogunseri Scott, has paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Felix Tuodolor, Chairman of the Life Members Forum of NIDSUG and a revered father of the union.

During the visit, Comrade Ogunseri introduced himself and his entire exco to Dr. Felix Tuodolor. The Chairman was appreciated for his unwavering support and close monitoring of the electoral process, which contributed to the successful conduct of the election.

As a token of gratitude, Dr. Felix Tuodolor was specially invited to attend the inauguration of the new NIDSUG EXCO, scheduled to take place in Edo State on 12th August 2023.

In his speech, Dr. Felix Tuodolor promised to extend full support to Comrade Ogunseri’s administration, pledging to assist in taking NIDSUG to new heights. He congratulated the entire exco for their victory and acknowledged them as the legitimate and recognized winners of the election.

Dr. Felix Tuodolor expressed a strong commitment to fostering unity within the union. He vowed that under his watch, no faction president would be allowed to parade themselves as the union’s president.

Addressing the issue of disunity, he emphasized the need for solidarity and cooperation among all members, as it has been a major setback for the union over the years.

Furthermore, Dr. Felix Tuodolor graciously accepted the role of the inauguration chairman for the newly elected exco, affirming his dedication to supporting their tenure and the growth of NIDSUG.
